What is ADAS in cars? A plain guide for Indian drivers
Lane alerts, AEB and cameras — helpful tech that still needs a human in charge.
ADAS means Advanced Driver Assistance Systems — cameras and sensors that warn or intervene: lane departure alerts, adaptive cruise, automatic emergency braking and more.
In India, more mid-range cars now ship with ADAS packs. They can reduce certain crashes, but they are not autopilot. Rain, glare and faded lane markings can confuse sensors.
New drivers should learn classic clutch, mirror and gap skills first. Then learn what your car’s ADAS can and cannot do — including when to switch features off safely.
Training cars with clear instructor dual-controls still matter more than gadgets. Tech assists; judgment decides.
